CNC to 9 Pin PC Connector - Xon/Xoff flow control Typically COM1 on a PC.

CNC to 25 Pin PC Connector - with hardware handshake Typically COM2 on a PC.

You need to configure your PC to match the serial port parameters used by your CNC.
