Notes:

  1. 5 RS232 wires are needed in the cable - recommend 24AWG shielded cable.
  2. The jumpered pins 6,8,20 are shorted together inside their respective connector shells.
  3. Set CNC and PC to use XON/XOFF protocol OR Hardware handshaking.
  4. Shield of cable should be connected to earth ground or chassis ground at one end. (or left open).

According to RS232 standards:

  1. At 9600 baud cable length should not exceed 100 feet.
  2. Cutting baud rate in half allows cable length to be doubled.
  3. Lower capacitance cable allows longer runs - shielding increases capacitance.
